Reason why updates suddenly stopped...

As you will become aware that I am in fact in year 12 and the Trial HSC exams are starting next week. Although I hate studying, I'm failing everything at the moment. Until The HSC exams are over, the site will most likely be neglected... oh well... I've got to get off and sleep now, school in the mornin' and it's 1:30am now...

Updates from the Vagabond

As you may have noticed already, the site's template is in the process of being updated. The new look is better than the crappy P.O.S. that I stated out with, yet it still isn't perfect.

I've got to make a few more adjustments as my CSS knowledge hasn't really changed at all and I got the site looking pretty good with Nvu but Blogger won't accept it's code because there's XML stuff which isn't
passing for some reason, could just be the Blogger engine.

Remember, post any new ideas in either a comment or the shoutbox below.

More fun stuff the the legends of today have...

As you might've noticed in the Nvu post, there are a few new pictures.

These are to show what OS (Operating System) is being represented.

 - This is the icon which represents the Windows OS's (Duh! Obviously!!!)

 - I think the apple speaks for itself...

 - Believe it or not, the penguin is the mascot for the OS called Linux.

  #----------------------#
 # Brief Linux rundown #
#----------------------#

Linux is an operating system which most webservers are run from. I don't know too mucha bout the history of it but there are several different mini OS's within the Linux Community, such as Mandrake (Mandriva? please, I need confirmation), Red Hat, SUSE, SOHO, PCLinux, WinLinux, Ubuntu and many more I think...

If any of the Linux info is wrong, please tell me so that I can correct what little I've written...

I now leave this post by saying that you penguin lovers buy this OS so that you can look at these evil creatures when you boot up your computer or when you are looking at the desktop...

Nvu... better than frontpage

Nvu is a program like Microsoft Frontpage but has a lot more features and is easy to use. Although I haven't looked into it much, I have had a look at it and I take my hat off to it.

Since I've forgotten how to write HTML, I can't really let you in on the inner workings of the application, yet it's quite a handy application for beginners as it generates ONLY the code you need, unlike Frontpage which makes it only usable on IE (Internet Explorer) by generating a shitload of shit, Nvu only genertates whatever you created in Design view wheter it be CSS, HTML, Javascript, etc. You would have to go to the official site for more info.

 # Features #
#----------#

WYSIWYG interface - Supports regular input, source code and even a preview function
- Supports most (if not) all web formats (html, css, xml, htm, php, javascript, etc)
- When looking at source code after creating i Design view, unlike Frontpage, you only get the basic HTML which is used in all net browsers, so you're not limited to IE (which is good while looking at Microsoft's website)

Plus many other features which I've yet to discover.

Lengends are born... or so I was told....

Okay then... I did promise to make a legend so here it is:
This is the new look for the archive files
Here's the minibanner for the executable files
I might as well make one for Apple's .dmg files

I may find a way to make them more smaller like the download buttons but I gotta allow for you to read them...

New Button and Unsupported Image

Okay, I thought it was time to re-edit the download buttons and the Not Supported icons. Here's a before and after preview:

   Before                      ->                              After
              ->
                                                                         OR

   Before                     ->                               After
             ->

I know that there are those who preder the bigger buttons but I wanted to make some different sets to see how people would react...

Coming next... icons for each file type... -_^'

Update Information...

I think that in the past day or so that the layout has tried to change. The massive sea of blue as the background is there as a step towards a final template (a.k.a. a reminder to me) which I will create when I get me CSS skills up but that's not gonna happen anytime soon since im a lazy person who can get distracted easily from educational stuff... but never fear, I shall make a template and then keep improving as needed.

Since the rebirth, I reckon that the site has gone through a revamp and overhaul in appearance. Also there are now programs available for download (scroll down) and download buttons.

About the Downloads...

The downloads will vary amongst the various Operating Systems which are most commonly used by computer users.

_________________________________________________________________
  #--------------------------#
 # The Windows Family  #
#--------------------------#

.zip
.rar
.exe

The downloads will be in either .zip (or any other arvhive format) or .exe format for the Windows downloads. Since Windows is one of the leading OS's out there, these are the easiest formats to download. If you want, I can change the format to an archive set if you desire for the .exe's and other files which aren't archived (ie .zip, .rar, etc).

  #---------------------------------#
 # The Apple Mac Community #
#--------------------------------#

.dmg

The downloads for the Macintosh OS's will be in dmg until I can dig up something which isn't in this format. Having nothing but pathetic excuses for experiences with these systems in the past, I can't do much more unless I get wind of other formats to download. Yes, you Apple fans/junkies/nerds/whatever-is-worse people, I will throw in a lot of offensive stuff towards Apple but it will also go for Windows as well... and microsoft... and if you can't handle what I'm saying, then just take a deep breath and endure it like an adult (although teenagers tend to be more resistant at times)...

  #---------------------#
 # The Linux Areas #
#--------------------#

(Yes, there's more than one Linux OS version out there)

.gzip
.tar - inside the .gzip archive file
.src

Now, since Linux has far too extensive list of OS's. I can only do my best to provide a universal set of links for this community... I'm sorry but it's either going to be a Tarballed GZip or Source file unless there's a link to the actual download page (hence the "Download Page" button) for you to choose whatever version you are running... this is to help promote time efficiency and storage capacity as I won't have the space to store every-single-file for your OS version. I apoligise for this tradgety but I'm sure you can understand since Linux is tend to be thought of as server-based to other OS users...
_________________________________________________________________

Now... I plan on making changes to make the site more user-friendly by adding graphics to show what the file type is, where to click other than a button to download and perhaps a mirror site or two incase the main one is offline. In other words... a shitload of work for me to do...

I will now create an area on the side above the archive links which will be used to say what the next changes and updates will be (to the site, not to the posts) such as graphics, colours for the site, logos, etc...

I will now leave you to wnjoy what little I have up here for the time being...

Songbird - The Media Player for all platforms...

Okay people, this time I bring to you a media player which is for all platforms... Songbird.

This media player makes me think that it's a cross between iTunes (the devil... THE DEVIL I SAY!!!) and Winamp. This, however, supports all formats and will even upload your iTunes list(s) if you want.

This piece of program is pretty damn good if you ask me, it even plays the Shoutcast stuff... and it's versitile as it's constantly being updated and add-ons are being created regularly too... i think... It may not have many skins as of yet (that i know of) but it will develop soon.

Features:

- It's a media player... uhh.... what do ya think it does???

- Supports Shoutcast

- Multi platform availiability

- Other stuff I can't be bothered mentioning...

And remember kids... WATCH OUT 4 THE RABBIT!!! IT'S GONNA KILL US ALL!!!!!!!!!

AVG Free Anti-Virus

Here it is people... GriSoft's AVG Free Edition of Anti-Virus protection. This lil beauty is excellent in removing harmful viruses and detcting them before they can infect. Of course, the more intelligent viruses will infect undetected until there's an error but AVG will flush them out anyway if it can. It's possible for AVG to not delete an infected file due to the file being a critical one of the operating system.

This lil program has saved me more than enough times and it still continues to protect me. This lil program can be your if you click a button below.

AVG Spyware

If you're tired of not having the benefits from a trial program clear out your spyware and ad ware, then this is the program for you, AVG Spyware.

You users who have AVG Anti-Virus would be familiar with the name GriSoft. Honestly, I have two spyware programs now and AVG is the better of the two, the other one being Spyware Doctor which is quite good itself as well.

If you're looking for a free Spyware/Adware removal tool then this is for you. It's simple, easy to use and very efficient.

Opera - A great substitute from IE

Opera is a company that has been around since Windows 95 or 98, I can't remember. They have released the ultimate web browser which shits all over Internet Explorer having next to no spyware, adware and next to no viruses.

This is my personal favourite web browser to use although there is Mozilla's Firefox, and Internet Explorer, Opera is neglected in terms of spyware, adware and viruses making it one of, if not, THE safest web browser to use. You can get viruses and stuff from the things you download but at least you can't get them just by looking at a webpage.

Functionality:

- Safe

- Supports Tabs and Windows (you can have multiple windows which each have like 10 tabs each open at one time)

- Voice control supported (must have a microphone and MUST SPEAK EXTREMELY CLEARLY, a lot of promise for easy control and less arthrisis possiblity)

- Transfer tab is separate - this means that it acts like Firefox's Downloads window except it's a tab in the window(s) you have open

- Can download torrents using the browser - no longer will you need a separate torrent program to download them, just click a link and Opera will do the rest for you

- Fraud Protection

- Plus many other features I'm not going to list because you'll have to download it or check out the site yourself (part of the fun aint it?)

To use this tool of supreme power, all you need to do is right-click on you archive file (.zip, .rar, .7z, .cab, .iso, .tar, .gzip etc) and you can extract from the menu that appears.

Rebirth

Alrighty then mates... Swifty - The Vagabond is back and his domain has a rebirth... I'm gonna make a few changes around here...

I'm gonna learn how to edit the layout of the site like my good friend Darkphatz has done to his realm of random things... which are useful if you wanna do stuff... ... ... LOOK!! A WALKING PERSON!!!!

I'm gonna start by following in his footsteps and start posting useful programsand maybe if you're lucky, post their links for you to download.... MAYBE and if Darkphatz approves of me utilising his idea...
